Wiigwaam at the Made in Canada Expo: The Value of Industry Connections

Wiigwaam Team at Made in Canada Expo

Last week, our team spent a few days at the International Centre in Mississauga for the Made in Canada Expo 2026. Trade shows are a standard part of the industry calendar, but they serve as a practical benchmark for where Canadian business is heading. For Wiigwaam Inc., it was an opportunity to step out of our day-to-day project management and look at the broader landscape of infrastructure, manufacturing, and supply chains.

Building a Stronger Network

Construction doesn't happen in a vacuum. Delivering projects across Ontario requires a massive, reliable network of suppliers, specialized manufacturers, and logistical partners. We attended the expo with a simple goal: to have straightforward conversations about capacity, procurement, and how we can work together.

Shared Goals and Economic Reconciliation

What stood out during our time in Mississauga was the shared recognition that building strong infrastructure means building strong, inclusive supply chains.

We engaged in numerous in-depth conversations specifically centered on Economic Reconciliation. Many of the developers and general contractors we met were eager to understand how they could meaningfully partner with Indigenous firms beyond simply checking a compliance box. We discussed how true reconciliation in construction means creating long-term career paths for Indigenous tradespeople and building self-sufficiency. It was incredibly encouraging to see so many industry leaders actively seeking out ways to integrate Indigenous expertise into their major provincial projects.

When discussing our operational footprint, stretching from our Northern roots down to Southern hubs, the conversations naturally shifted toward collaboration. We talked about the practical realities of project delivery and how integrating Indigenous-owned businesses into the broader construction sector benefits everyone. For us, Economic Reconciliation isn't just a talking point; it's about these exact moments, finding common ground, keeping capital circulating locally, and proving that inclusive procurement strategies lead to better, more resilient project outcomes.

Moving Forward

The expo was a productive few days of networking. The handshakes made and contact information exchanged aren't just for show; they are the starting point for reliable partnerships as we continue to expand our footprint across the province.

Thank you to the vendors, suppliers, and fellow contractors who took the time to talk shop with us. We are always looking for reliable partners who share our commitment to quality and safety.

Partner With Us

If we didn't cross paths at the expo, our door is always open. Whether you are looking to partner on an upcoming tender or want to learn more about our capabilities, let's connect.
